A Certain Slant of Light

Findlay Galleries is pleased to present “A Certain Slant of Light”, an exhibition featuring the most recent work of American contemporary landscape painter Mary Sipp Green. This exhibition title takes inspiration from Emily Dickinson’s poem, “There’s a certain Slant of light”, in which the poet describes the feeling of light and its effect on the viewer.

Sipp Green’s remarkable skill and craft is displayed in her skies and tranquil waters which are the embodiment of light and time.  Her works capture moments when the light is low and ethereal; at dawn and dusk, twilight and moonlight, when hard edges disappear into the nebulous atmosphere. She believes that these paintings are about looking at the secrets of light as it relates to the passage of time.
